Join us at the Gardens for an exciting educational adventure. Students will be immersed in a sub-tropical and historically monumental setting for an experience of your choosing. Let the garden become your classroom! Choose from our list of lesson plans below, or work with us to develop curriculum for your group. We offer guided educational programs, and self-guided field trips.

Guided Programs

Lesson plans adhere to state and national standards, and include an activity to create an understanding of science, nature, art, and the environment. Guided field trips are capped at 30 students per group. If you have a group larger than 30 but would still like a guided field trip, please book your group in consecutive dates so that we can best accommodate you, or join us for a self-guided program

Self Guided

Field trips are available for groups larger than 30. Turn our lesson plans into a self-guided adventure with our self-guided educational resources.

Field Trip Fees

Advance reservations are required for all groups. A $50 non-refundable deposit reserves a specific date and time for your group, the deposit will be used toward the participant admission and covers the administrative fee.

Field trips are $5 per person, with 1 free chaperone per 10 students. Any adults outside of this ratio will be charged our regular admission fee. We welcome all abilities.

All field trip bookings have access to the gardens amenities including playground, mini viewing zoo, splash 'n play and botanical walking trails. Picnic tables can be reserved for your group upon request, subject to availability.

Field Trip Lesson Options:

Pre-K

Colors of the Garden: Embark on a journey through nature as we look for colors, learn about plants and hear story! A walk in the garden is a rainbow of color just waiting to be discovered.

5 Senses in the Garden: Use your five senses to explore Pinecrest Gardens. Through guided activities, learn how we use all of our senses every day, especially in nature! Become a Sensory Scientist in this program!

 

Grades K-5

Pinecrest Gardens Search & Find: A guided tour of the garden equipped with a seasonal scavenger hunt. Learn about the history, the plants and the habitats of Pinecrest Gardens with our Search & Find Program

5 Senses in the Garden: Use your five senses to explore Pinecrest Gardens. Through guided activities, learn how we use all of our senses every day, especially in nature! Become a Sensory Scientist in this program!

Plant Parts & Pollination: Flowering plants and pollination go hand in hand. Learn about the different types of pollinators, how a plant gets pollinated, what pollination is, and why! Students become field scientists as we observe pollinators on flowers, learn about plant reproduction, and use all of our senses to discover plant parts in the Learning Garden. 

The Garden's Art: After learning about art in nature, students will have a guided tour of Pinecrest Gardens, learning about the history and features of the garden. Then, students will spend time in nature drawing something that inspires them today. Art and Nature go hand in hand, and this lesson plan discovers how!

Native & Non-Native (grades 3 to 5): Explore native and non-native species of the Garden in this guided or self-guided field trip. Learn about Ethnobotany, the relationship between people and plants, and imagine what it would be like to live in South Florida before modern times. Could you survive on only native and non-native plants? Become an explorer and learn what plants could help you survive.

Pinecrest Gardens Discovery Journal: Enjoy a reflective and meditative morning in the garden with a guided or self-guided garden discovery and nature journaling field trip. Observe flora, fauna, colors and patterns throughout the garden and let the journal prompt your creativity.

 

Grades 6-8

Pinecrest Gardens History, Gardens, Art and Ecology Tour: Students will learn about the history of Pinecrest Gardens and what makes our property so unique. Observe our plant collection, learn about our arts programs, and explore the garden on this guided tour.

Pinecrest Gardens Discovery Journal:  Enjoy a reflective and meditative morning in the garden with a guided or self-guided garden discovery and nature journaling field trip. Observe flora, fauna, colors and patterns throughout the garden and let the journal prompt your creativity.
