Since 2017, Pinecrest Gardens has been the domicile for Artist-in-Residence Xavier Cortada.

Xavier Cortada has worked with groups globally to produce numerous collaborative art projects, including environmental installations at the North Pole and South Pole, peace murals in Cyprus and Northern Ireland, child welfare murals in Bolivia and Panama, AIDS murals in Switzerland and South Africa and eco-art projects in Taiwan and Holland. Cortada has created art for the White House, the World Bank, the Museum of Florida History, the Florida Botanical Gardens, Miami City Hall, the Frost Art Museum, Miami-Dade County Hall, the Miami Science Museum, Port Everglades, the Florida Turnpike, and the Pinecrest Municipal Center.

His work is in the collections of the Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), the NSU Museum of Art in Ft. Lauderdale, the Whatcom Museum, and the Patricia and Philip Frost Art Museum.

You can also see his work throughout the Gardens: The Diatom Court, The Longitudinal Installation and The Mangrove Forest Mural are among the magnificent art expressions of Cortada.

Pinecrest Gardens looks forward to introduce new artists to the garden as we shape the future of our artist in residence program that will evolve to a biennial 11-month residency.  More information will be available with a Call for Artists in 2024.
