Upper Garden

The northern portion of Pinecrest Gardens is made up of the Meadow, Terrace and Learning Garden. Interactive components include the Splash and Play, Playground and Mini Zoo. The trails are inlaid with patterns of leaves, flowers, flamingos, snails and other natural shapes that are of the original Parrot Jungle tilework. While enjoying the Meadow Garden, visitors can take notice of the Banyan Tree, African Sausage Tree and view the sharp contrast of our Dry Meadow Garden and the colorful Garden Croton collection. The Terrace overlooks a beautiful lake bordered by greenery and home to the resident Swans and various wading birds that make their way into the area. Tables are located throughout the Upper Gardens for visitors to sit and enjoy their surroundings. The unique appearance of Pinecrest Gardens is dependent on the historical outlay and architecture, aquatic features, themed gardens and contrasting landscapes.

The Upper Gardens contains two kid-friendly features that pay homage to the historical features of Parrot Jungle. The playground is open everyday and includes slides, climbing structures, swing sets and interactive instruments to fuel the imagination and energy of kids. Across from the playground, visitors can enjoy our farm family of goats, chickens, bunnies, donkeys and a pot belly pig. Twice a day visitors can do a meet and greet with a few of our farm animals and swing by the Learning Garden for a sensory experience with living plants.

Several garden areas contain mosaics made from broken or cut brick. The inlaid patterns feature leaves, flowers, flamingos, snails, and other natural shapes. Additionally, a variety of fine sculptural art can be found tucked into the landscape. The Gardens’ history, period architecture, forested areas, aquatic features, theme gardens, dry gardens, and open vistas contribute to Pinecrest Gardens’ unique appearance.
