EXOTIC FISH

Pacu (Piaractus Brachypomus): These large fish school in the largest pond. In their native Brazilian habitat, these primarily fruit-eating fish play an important role in seed dispersal during annual flooding of the Amazon. In the Gardens, this fish species is of the largest, swimming next to Koi, Peacock Bass and Mountain Mullet.

WILDLIFE

Peafowl (Pavo cristatus): The beautiful blue birds can be seen all throughout Pinecrest Gardens and through much of the Miami area. Not native to this region, Peafowls began to spread after introduction through farming and pet trades. Their bright blue and green feathers create a mosaic of colors among the greenery. The native range of this bird is India and Sri Lanka in open lowland forests. These birds are held in high regard in some cultures.

Monk Parakeets (Myiopsitta monachus): These birds travel in colonies throughout South Florida. They come and go from the Gardens, but are noticeable upon their distinct Parakeet call and chatter in the canopy above. They thrive well here in the Miami area, although the native range is Paraguay, Bolivia, Argentina, and Brazil. The Monk Parakeet has a highly varied diet and an unshy nature, and can find refuge in many of the available green spaces.
