Join us on Thursday, February 18 at 6 PM for the Taste of the Tropics exhibition opening and reception.

The reception will recognize the student artists, and will be held in our Hibiscus Gallery.

 

A STEAM Authentic Assessment Exhibition

Rainforests are among the most vital ecosystems on Earth, often referred to as the planet’s lungs for their ability to absorb carbon dioxide, regulate climate, and produce oxygen essential for life. Found across regions such as the Amazon, Congo, and Southeast Asia, these environments sustain an extraordinary diversity of life, from towering canopy trees and dense understory plants to vibrant birds, elusive mammals, amphibians, and countless insect species. Many of these organisms rely on one another in complex food webs and symbiotic relationships that maintain the balance of the ecosystem. Inspired by the richness and complexity of these habitats, artists have long explored the vivid colors, textures, and dynamic life found within rainforest environments. This exhibition invites students in grades K-12 to research and investigate rainforest ecosystems, with a focus on both plant life and wildlife, and then create 2D or 3D artworks that reflect their beauty, biodiversity, and ecological importance. Students are encouraged to develop visual narratives that highlight animal habitats, survival adaptations, and the interconnected relationships between species, as well as the role rainforests play in sustaining life on our planet.
