ABOUT HAZMAT MODINE

For over 15 years, New York-based Hazmat Modine has toured more than 40 countries, collaborating with an extraordinary range of artists including Bombino, the Kronos Quartet, Cat Empire, the Gangbé Brass Band from Benin, and Natalie Merchant. Their album “Cicada” earned France's prestigious Charles Cross Award for Best Blues Album of the Year and reached #1 on the World Music Charts in Europe. The title track from their debut album, “Bahamut,” was featured in Wim Wenders' acclaimed 3D film Pina and is currently performed live by Pina Bausch and the Stuttgart Ballet.

The band is a true collective of world-class musicians: Erik Della Penna on guitar and banjitar, Daisy Castro on violin, Steve Elson on baritone sax and clarinet, Pamela Fleming on trumpet, Reut Regev on trombone, Varun Das on drums and percussion, and Kenneth Bentley on tuba. Together, they draw on early blues, gypsy jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and global folk traditions to create something that is wholly and unmistakably their own.
