2026-2027 Contest Theme: The Roadside Gallery: A Tribute to Old Florida’s Attractions

Before the massive theme parks and towering skyscrapers, Florida was a land of roadside wonders, Spanish fortresses, and crystal-clear springs. We are looking for student artists in Grades 4-12 to grab their brushes, pencils, or cameras and take us on a visual trip through time! Join us on an artistic journey through Florida’s historic attractions. Create a piece of art that captures the soul of "Old Florida." We want to see the landmarks that tell the story of the Sunshine State. What makes Florida’s history unique to you?

• The Roadside Wonders & Grand Hotels: From the kitschy neon signs, Weeki Wachee mermaids, Sarasota’s Ringling Bros. Circus winter headquarters to the iconic Historic Parrot Jungle, Florida’s roadside attractions are full of inspiration. To international travelers, the state offered a true sense of Eden. Complementing this wonder were the gilded-age hotels of Henry Flagler, the Mediterranean elegance of the Biltmore, and Spanish Revival-style accommodations that delivered breathtaking architecture and a destination experience all their own.

Submission Details:

Contest participants: Public and Private school students, grades 4-12 in Miami Dade County

Medium: 2D media —painting, drawing, digital art, photography, collage, etc.

Contest Opens: Monday, November 9, 2026

Contest Closes: Monday, January 11, 2027

Contest Judging: Tuesday January 12 through Thursday January 14, 2027

Winners Announced: Friday, January 15, 2027

Gallery Opening & Reception: Occurs during the Pinecrest Gardens Art & Design Fair in our Inspiration Center Saturday, January 23, 2027. Artwork will remain on display through Sunday, January 24.
