His diverse recording and performing experience includes work with legendary figures Tito Puente, Hector Lavoe, Celia Cruz, Johnny Pacheco, Marc Anthony, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Ray Barretto, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Larry Harlow, Tito Nieves, Spanish Harlem Orchestra and a host of others. With over fifty years of experience in arranging and composing Latin music, Nuñez masterfully illustrates how these vibrant genres merged to create salsa, captivating audiences with the history and rhythms of Latin America and New York City’s iconic 1970s nightlife.
Raised in the vibrant multi-cultural surroundings of Brooklyn, Nuñez honed his craft under the influence of legends like Tito Puente, Miles Davis, The Jackson 5, and The Beatles. His expertise spans genres, from salsa and Big Band to Latin jazz and R&B, showcased in his critically acclaimed ensemble, The Chino Nunez Big Band Orchestra.
Nuñez collaborated with icons such as Celia Cruz, Marc Anthony, and Carlos Santana while gracing prestigious venues that include the Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. His musical prowess extends to Broadway, leaving an indelible mark on shows like Evita and The Lion King and in film soundtracks.
In 2005, Nuñez began a solo career, captivating global audiences with albums like Chino Nuñez & Friends, A Tribute to the Dancers, It’s ShoTime, and Chino Nuñez, Doctor Salsa.
Live music shows are presented in the historic Banyan Bowl amphitheater, an acoustically stunning amphitheater under a spectacular geodesic dome.
